RFID Hardware
RFID stands for radio frequency identification. It is an automatic identification technology whereby digital data encoded in an RFID tag or “smart label” is captured by a reader using radio waves. Put simply, RFID is similar to bar code technology but uses radio waves to capture data from tags, rather than optically scanning the bar codes on a label. RFID does not require the tag or label to be seen to read its stored data—that's one of the key characteristics of an RFID system.
With the RFID Ready option, the module/components can be quickly and easily installed by an RFID-qualified field engineer. When you plan to migrate to RFID, the printer will be upgraded with a reader/encoder that will support the RFID protocols that are most current at the time of installation. The printer/encoder can then be Flash-upgraded to support emerging protocols. Zebra's XiIIIPlus™ with an RFID Ready option, allows incorporation of RFID functionality into the traditional bar code printers at whatever point you wish to launch RFID in your organization.
